Denver Memory Care Options
Denver has four memory care options: a secured neighborhood inside a larger community, a standalone memory care building, a small residential care home, and skilled nursing with dementia support. Behavior and medical need decide which one fits. Our help choosing is free.

What are the four memory care options in Denver?
Each one is a real setting with a real license, not a marketing tier. Here is who each fits and what to ask.
Secured memory care neighborhood inside a larger community
The most common Denver option. A locked wing with its own dining room, activities, and staffing, attached to an assisted living building.
Best when a spouse may also need assisted living, or when you want the option to move between care levels without changing address. Ask whether the memory care staff are dedicated to that wing or float across the building.
Standalone memory care community
The whole building is built for dementia: circular walking paths, visual cues at each door, no long anonymous corridors.
Often the strongest fit for exit seeking or advanced dementia. Ask about the ratio at night, not just during the day.
Small residential care home
A house in a Denver neighborhood licensed for a handful of residents, with a very small caregiver team.
Quiet, homelike, and often the right answer for someone overwhelmed by a big building. Ask how the home covers a call out, and whether a nurse visits or is on staff.
Skilled nursing with dementia support
For dementia combined with real medical need: a feeding tube, wound care, late stage immobility, or hospice level support.
This is a clinical setting, not a lifestyle one. It is the right call less often than families expect, and we will tell you when it is not needed.
How should you compare Denver memory care communities?
Six questions separate a good building from a good tour. We ask them with you, in person.
- Watch a shift change. Ten minutes at 3 p.m. tells you more than any tour.
- Ask the ratio at 2 a.m., in numbers, and ask what happens when one caregiver calls out.
- Ask how many residents have moved out in the past year because care needs outgrew the building.
- Ask what happens when someone refuses a shower, or tries the door at night. Listen for redirection, not restriction.
- Ask who is dementia certified on staff, and how often the whole team trains.
- Eat a meal there. Dining is where dignity shows up or does not.
